NIPCO gets downstream sector award

Nipco Plc has been awarded the best terminal for its compliance in the area of health, safety and environment in line with international best practices in 2012.
The company got the award during the Annual HSE Awards organized by the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) for hydro- carbon terminal operators in Lagos state.
Speaking at the award presentation, Head HSE, NPA, Engr. Okey Ezinwa said the honor is the aftermath of two comprehensive HSE Audit conducted on all white products and gas dispensing companies in the state with a view to ascertaining their level of compliance to international best standards.
He explained that the audit which was carried out in March and November last year revealed some grey areas in the operators of Tank farms and terminals operating in the Lagos port area while some others had made remarkable improvement in HSE practices.
According to him, the high volatility of petroleum products had made the NPA management strengthen the HSE department so as to avoid any mishaps in the process of receipt and discharge of oil and gas.
He said the annual HSE event that usually attracts experts in the oil and gas industry and subsequent awards will be continued in coming years   in a conscious move to improve HSE practices in the overall interest of stakeholders.
