Otuoke: University students seek conducive learning environment

Students of the Federal University Otuoke, Bayelsa State, have appealed to the Federal Government to continue to provide a conducive environment that will enable them thrive in their various fields of study.
They made the appeal when the National Good Governance Tour team went on an inspection of the institution on Monday.
The students said for them to study and yield positive results, there is need for a good foundation to be laid.
Information Minister, Labaran Maku, who agreed that their future depends on the foundation, said the students must set a good record for the future generation by ensuring they maintain high moral standards.
“As pioneers you must set the records and standards which will challenge the next two generations that will come to this university. Academics alone cannot take you anywhere, you must have good character,” he said.
Earlier, while inspecting ongoing projects, Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Bolaji Aluko, told the team that the community has constructed eight different buildings (out of which three have been turned over to the school for upgrade), that will aid in fast tracking the development of the university’s permanent site.
The school, which is one of the nine federal universities established by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, matriculated 282 students last Saturday under 12 departments and two faculties.
Maku urged Nigerians to view federal universities as centres of unity that will tap knowledge from all over the country for its development.
He thanked the Otuoke community for their enthusiasm and support to the Federal Government to get the university going.
