Ear piercing is a common practice amongst women of virtually all tribes in the country. Like other types of body piercing, it involves puncturing or cutting a part of the ear lobe and creating an opening in which jewelry may be worn. The number of holes or piercing varies from one culture to the other and the personal taste or preference of the woman. Most times the ears of a female infant are pierced within the first one week of birth. In some cultures both men and women pierce their ears and wear jewelries in them. Nowadays even where it is not the culture or usually the norm for men to pierce their ears, they do so for fashion.
It is common to see girls these days with multiple piercings, sometimes in a cluster or with the usual hole and another at the far side of the ear lobe.
Nose piercing is another common type of facial piercing. It is an ancient practice which has its roots in some tribes in Asia and is also gaining some modern popularity. Many women in India , Pakistan as well as the Middle East and Arabian countries have nose piercings and in these places it is a part of their tradition. It is also popular in European countries and among Hausa women in the country.
Today nose piercing has become popular worldwide, particularly amongst the youth. Its popularity is also adding to the variety of modifications and new designs. The piercings are mostly done to accommodate one form of jewelry or the other. It is usually restricted to nostril piercing in countries where it is the tradition but there are now septum, bridge and other types.
There are some kind of jewelry that can be worn together for both piercing in the ear and in the nose. Some of them have chains that can be fastened to earrings.
Whatever the kind of body piercing you opt for , it is important to use safe piercing materials and methods to avoid injury, infection, scarring and other problems.
