National Union of Hotels and Personal Services Workers (NUHPSW) has said the proposed biometric registration of his members is anti- labour and unacceptable.

The exercise which is being championed by Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation (NTDC) also makes it mandatory for hotel workers to pay of N1,000 each to fund the project.

NUHPSW in a statement by its President, Comrade Leke Success ,and General Secretary, Comrade Augustine Mbavough,  warned that no employer in the industry should deduct any amount from its members’ wages towards the project.

“We are against the planned or the proposed payment of N1,000 per hotel worker towards funding the planned biometric registration of hotel workers in the country because it is totally unacceptable to the union and against the labour laws.

“We use this medium to warn that no employer in the industry should deduct any amount from our members’ wages towards this project. Charging hotel workers to fund this project will amount to extortion which we cannot explain to our members. The responsible agency should approach its principal i.e. the federal government to provide the needed funds to execute it,” the statement said.
