Workers ask Jonathan to sack health minister

Workers in the health sector under the aegis of Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) has reiterated its call for the sack of Minister of Health Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu for the dwindling fortunes of the sector in the country.
Members of JOHESU which comprises about 30 health sector unions have severally gone on strike over the refusal of the ministry of health to implement agreements it reached with them on workers welfare and equipping of health facilities.
A press statement signed by JOHESU Chairperson Comrade Ayuba Wabba, Secretary Comrade Yusuf Badmus and the Chairperson of the Assembly of Health Professional Association Dr. Godswill Okara said the minister was incompetent and deserves to be shown the way out.
The statement said as a labour union, its demand was not political but based on the  outcome of publicly available assessments which show retrogression in the sector since the assumption of Chukwu as minister.
JOHESU said , “For the avoidance of doubt, our demand for the resignation of Prof Onyebuchi Chukwu as minister of health, and for quality public health has no political undertone whatsoever.
“We have actually been justified by the performance appraisal of ministers carried out by several impartial bodies in the country. All of them scored the minister of health’s performance as being abysmally poor.
“He should take the honourable step of resigning as he has no clue whatsoever for salvaging the health system. Conversely, we call on Mr. President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan to remove him as minister forthwith, before the health sector is avoidably destroyed by his nihilistic tendencies.”
When contacted, spokesman for the minister Dan Nwomeh said the ministry had nothing to talk about it, having made a statement on the matter last December.
