The Bauchi state government has awarded N1 billion contract for supply of chemicals to the state fertilizer blending plant to enable it produce fertilizer for 2013 farming season. Briefing newsmen after the State Executive Council meeting, commissioner of Agriculture Alhaji Tasi’u Mohammed said the chemicals will be supplied to the state fertilizer blending company to enable it produces 16,000 metric tons of liquid fertilizer to farmers.

Tasi’u said the fertilizer when produce would be sold to farmers in the state at 50 percent subsidy through E- wallet system introduced by the federal government last year.

He explained that farmers who have already applied and filled the forms will get double allocation while new applicants will get two bags this year.

The commissioner said government has concluded plans to procure 66 tractors in order to boost agriculture this year.
