Raise judicial commission of inquiry on Boko Haram – FG urged

The Northern Development Focus Initiative (NDFI) has called on the Federal government to institute a Judicial Commission of Inquiry to find out the remote and immediate causes of Boko Haram insurgency, how the movement started, those who aid and patronize as well as benefit from it.

The call was made in Kano yesterday by Chairman of the Northern Development Focus Initiative Alhaji Usman Faruk at the opening ceremony of a 3-day summit on ‘Strategy for a Constructive Engagement to Save the Collapsing Northern Economy/Socio-Political and Educational Standard organized by the NDFI.

Faruk said instituting the commission was pertinent as it would find out those who are patronizing and benefitting from the insurgency and at the end be made to face the wrath of the law.

He said it is the duty of the federal government to take full responsibility of security matters all over the country, saying it was on that note that he called on the northern governors to demand the refund of fund used to fight insecurity in their states from the federal government.

“I call on all the states in the North afflicted by insecurity issues compute all monies spent to address security matters related to Boko Haram and be forwarded to Federal Government for reimbursement. The Federal Government should also compensate all those who lost their lives and properties during these unfortunate incidences promptly and adequately,” he said.

The chairman further advocated for the setting up of a ‘Northern Nigeria Restoration, Reformation and Rehabilitation programme unconditionally with Boko Haram and other Youths of Northern Nigeria as was done to the Niger Delta Militants and ex-Biafran soldiers of the seventies.

The former military governor of the North-Western States decried the disparity in educational sector between the North and the South which he said the literacy rate of 70 percent in the South to 30 percent in the North is unacceptable.
