The sack of the Registrar of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Dr Isa Mohammed-Abbas, is generating tension in the institution.

 A  source close to the university’s Governing Council, who pleaded anonymity, said the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi Mustapha’s, action was contrary to the university laws.

The source added that the council did not authorise the sack.

Dr Bello Katagum, the chairman of the panel set up by the council to investigate the allegation against the registrar, told newsmen yesterday that his committee’s report did not  recommend “sack.”

Katagum said: “I’m not sure that we recommended for his removal, but I will not speak further.”      

It would be recalled that a letter signed by the vice chancellor, dated Jan. 30, 2013 and addressed to the former registrar ordered the latter to vacate his office, with effect from January 26.

The letter reads: “Following the allegation that you did not hand over your duties to a designated officer when leaving for Hajj, a panel was set up by the council to investigate the allegation. The Governing Council of the university at its 151 regular meeting considered the report submitted by the panel. Consequently, upon the confirmation and satisfaction that you committed the alleged misconduct, the council has approved your removal as Registrar of ABU.” (NAN)
