House probes N3.5bn Enugu-P/Harcourt road contract

Lawmakers in the House of Representatives yesterday launched an investigation into reports of alleged fraud in the award of contract for the rehabilitation of Enugu- Port Harcourt road by the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA).
The House unanimously passed a resolution mandating its committee on Works to probe FERMA over alleged N3.5bn fraud in Enugu- Port Harcourt road FERMA to probe the alleged misapplication of N3.5 billion earmarked for the rehabilitation of the dual carriageway.
“In 2012 the Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA) awarded contract totaling about N3.5 billion for the repairs of Enugu - Port Harcourt Dual carriageway,” said Rep. Bimbo Daramola (ACN-Ekiti) who sponsored the motion.
He said the “the details of the contract shows the road was split to four sections with each section awarded to different contractors. President Goodluck Jonathan had during the presentation of the 2013 budget estimates before the joint sitting of the National Assembly informed the nation about the award of the contract.”
