Man killed, policeman injured in Lagos explosion

One man was killed while a policeman was injured on Monday in an explosion under the Festac Link Bridge in Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area of Lagos State.
The explosion caused panic as residents of the area and passers-by took to their heels.  The man, who was killed by the explosion, Oladele  Pius, was until his death, chairman of the Sand Diggers Association in the area.
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Mr. Umar Tanko, who visited the scene said full investigation has commenced to unravel the cause of the explosion.
He however added that it was too early to say whether the explosion was caused by a bomb blast.  Manko urged residents not to panic, but continue with their lawful businesses, adding that the police remain committed to safety of lives and property.
On his part, chairman of Amuwo Odofin Local Government Area, Ayodele Adewale,  who expressed shock over the incident, appealed to residents of the council to remain calm.
Adewale  also urged people living close to Festac Link Bridge,  the scene of the explosion, to promptly alert the police whenever they see strange people loitering  around the area.
