Kogi frees 10 inmates

The Kogi State Chief Judge, Justice Nasir Ajanah, has released ten awaiting trial inmates at the Federal Prison, Koton-Karfe.
Justice Ajannah, while reviewing cases of 106 awaiting trials inmates yesterday, said they were unnecessarily detained.
According to him, most of the released inmates were alleged to have belonged to robbery gangs without any concrete charge. He added that the arrests were not in conformity with the provisions of the law. He lamented that the prison which was built in 1934 for 50 inmates was being forced to accommodate 134 inmates, adding that when there is congestion, there are always attempted jail breaks.
The chief judge called on the authorities to build another prison in Koton-Karfe or expand the existing one, just as he urged those involved in the administration of justice in the state to ensure quick dispensation.
