Man arrested for impersonating IGP’s brother
Category: News
A 48-year-old man identified as Sani Mohammed who claimed to be the younger brother to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to defraud unsuspecting members of the public has been arrested.
Sani Mohammed, also known as Sani Mile 12, was allegedly arrested by policemen at Ketu area of the metropolis based on a tip off.
The suspect, who is from Kebbi State, allegedly collected huge sums of money from some Hausa traders at the popular Ketu-Mile 12 market under the pretence of helping them resolve market issues.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Ngozi Braide, who paraded the suspect before news men, stated that there was no truth in the claims of the suspect that he is related to the IGP.
According to her, the suspect is only doing so to fool members of the public who may want to reach the IGP.
Braide said luck ran out on the fraudster, following an official complaint lodged at Ketu police station by the IGP’s real brother also identified as Sani Abubakar.
“The suspect operates within Ketu and Mile 12 area where majority of the traders are from the North. He goes about addressing himself as Sani Mile 12, and the IGP’s younger brother is also known as Sani Mile 12,” she added.
The suspect denied using the name to extort money from members of the public. He however admitted using the name of the IGP’s brother.
