Kaduna to reposition primary, secondary schools

The Kaduna State government earmarked N14 billion for the education sector in the 2013 budget, with a view to repositioning dilapidated primary and secondary schools.

The state’s commissioner for education, Alhaji Mohammad Usman, made this known when he led a delegation from the education ministry on a courtesy visit to the Zazzau palace.

“The said amount will be used for human capital and infrastructural development at all levels of education in the state. We have tertiary institutions like the state university, state college of education, state polytechnic, college of nursing and college of health technology that need our attention, aside the urgent need for repositioning the state primary and secondary schools,” he said.

The commissioner said the present administration in the state places much emphasis on education because education, according to him, is second to security in terms of priority. Alhaji Mohammad said the visit was inform the emir of government’s commitment towards revitalization of education in the state and the need for people to support it.

Responding, the emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris, thanked the delegation for the visit and pledged support of traditional rulers towards actualization of the government’s plans.

“We should also fight the menace of drug abuse in our schools. We should not allow the menace to manifest in our schools, therefore, we have to do something urgent to tackle the problem. I also want to call on teachers to re-introduce extra lessons to get the youths engaged and expose them to realities of life,” he said.
