Senate to regulate house rent in FCT

The Senate has said that it will soon regulate house rent in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja. The Senate said this yesterday during the second reading of a Bill for an Act to Repeal the Recovery of Premises Act 1990 and to Re-enact the Recovery of Premises Act (Abuja) 2011 to Regulate the Relationship Between Landlords and Tenants, Rent Control, the Procedure for the Recovery of Premises and for Other Matters Connected Therewith 2013. The bill, sponsored by the chairman of the Senate Committee on FCT, Senator Smart Adeyemi (PDP, Kogi West), seeks to stop arbitrary and prohibitive rents handed down to tenants by landlords.
