Nasarawa Assembly to ban traditional rulers, residing outside chiefdoms, emirates

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly said on Wednesday in Lafia that it would enact a law to prohibit all traditional rulers in the state from residing outside their domains.

Mr Anthony Obande (PDP-Doma South), chairman of the House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, stated this while presenting reports on a bill to regulate activities of traditional rulers in the state.

Obande said the bill would ensure that traditional rulers reside and preside over the affairs of their chiefdoms to ensure peace and progress in the state.

He said “If this bill sees the light of the day, it will prohibit all traditional rulers in the state from residing outside their domains. It will be considered an offence for a traditional ruler to live outside his chiefdom or emirate’s headquarters for no just cause. (NAN)
