Nigeria Immigration to monitor borders via satellite

Comptroller General, Nigeria Immigration Service, Lirwanu Bala Musa, said yesterday that plans are underway by his command to connect all border control posts to the Nigerian satellite to enable them monitor activities from the headquarters in Abuja
Musa, who said this when he visited Yobe State governor Ibrahim Gaidam in Damaturu, said surveillance cameras initially mounted to monitor and control movement of people in and out of the country failed.
“When we put the surveillance camera at Banki, it was blown off. That is why we went back to the drawing board to connect the satellite to control posts, so that whatever is happening, we will be able to see it from Abuja,” he said.
He said the visit was to assess what is on ground and the challenges so far.
The comptroller, who admitted that the country’s borders are porous, said more border posts would be put up to check the influx of illegal immigrants.
