Borno CPC still consulting on merger - Chairman

Borno State chapter of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) is yet to merge with other political parties at the state level even though it is not against the setting up of the All Progressive Congress (APC), acting chairman of the party in the state, Ibrahim El-Zubairu has said.

El-Zubairu said he was yet to get any directive from the national headquarters of the CPC saying so far the party is still an independent opposition party in Borno State which is led by the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP).

He was debunking a statement made by Alhaji Lawan Ngalbia, the factional leader of the CPC in the state, who had earlier stated that the party had formed a committee of eminent members to enter into discussion with other parties involved in the merger at the state level.

El- Zubairu stated this after a meeting of the party’s stakeholder in Maiduguri yesterday.

“We are calling on all our supporters and parties involved in the merger to completely disregard the announcement or any group claiming to act as members of any committee of the CPC on the merger.

“The details and strategies of the merger have not yet been discussed by the various Parties with their teeming members across the country. It is our conclusion that the formation of such a committee without formal briefing and directive on the details of the merger from our party headquarters is not only an act of political desperation, but also an organized attempt to cause confusion unnecessarily.

Meanwhile, Comrade Zannah Chiroma who is the founding chairman of the CPC in the state said the success of APC in Borno State will depend on the level of fairness that Governor Kashim Shettima puts to play.
