Conduct fresh Plateau North senatorial by-election, CPC tells INEC
Category: Inside politics
The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in Plateau State has asked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh Plateau North Senatorial by-election without further delay.
A by-election conducted on October 6 last year produced Gyang Pwajok of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the elected senator for the Plateau North Senatorial Zone, but the CPC challenged Pwajok’s election in court, questioning its disqualification for that election, and on December 21, 2012 a high court sitting in Abuja annulled Pwajok’s election; but the Public Affairs Officer of INEC in Plateau State, Mr Bencyn Ikpe, announced last Friday that INEC had filed an appeal against the December 2012 judgment.
CPC state secretary, Pastor Dabit Joseph said in a statement: “It should be noted that this is a pre-election matter which is supposed to be 21 days for any appeal. Why should it be that INEC is appealing at this time?”
