Police shoot three in Kano

Three persons were yesterday shot by a police sergeant in Kano during the distribution of government-donated empowerment materials to youths. The mobile police officer was on the team of policemen drafted to maintain law and order in the area. The victims, it was gathered, were among the 500 youths to benefit from N40million worth of materials.It was learnt that the officer pulled the trigger, following an argument between him and one of the beneficiaries. While one of the victims was hit in the thigh, the other two were hit in the legs. The victims were immediately rushed to the emergency section of the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital for treatment.
When our correspondent visited the scene of the incident, he observed that riot policemen had been deployed to the scene to prevent a breakdown of law and order.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, SP Baba Mohammed Azare, confirmed the incident, saying the commissioner had ordered the arrest of the sergeant and that investigation into the incident had commenced. He said one of the victims sustained a major injury while the other two had been treated and discharged.
