Job creation not govt’s responsibility –Dangote

It is not the responsibility of government to create jobs, its responsibility is to provide enabling environment for businesses to thrive, president of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has said.

Speaking in Kaduna shortly after disbursing resettlement funds to victims of the post election riot in the state, he said if businesses are thriving, unemployed persons would be gainfully employed.

He stressed the need for the revival of the agriculture sector of the country, saying, “ If we rely on the agriculture sector alone, Nigeria will move forward. We have very massive arable land, we don’t have any reason to abandon the agriculture sector. There is a serious deficit in the country in terms of agriculture, we don t have enough chicken to feed ourselves’’.

He said his foundation is partnering with the Bank of Industry (BOI) to disburse N20 billion soft loans to micro traders to reduce poverty among the populace. Under the arrangement, he said his foundation would provide N10 billion while the BOI on its part will provide N10 billion.

“Already, we have given our first tranche of N 2.5 billion to the BOI and they too have given theirs, making a total of N5 billion. Awareness about this programme is low, and we are going to raise the awareness so that Nigerians can be aware of it and possibly benefit from it,” he said.
