NUT laments state of early childhood educators

Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) yesterday decried the condition of early child educators in Nigeria, while urging government at all levels to improve their lot.

The union lamented that over 90 percent of early childhood educators in Nigeria have no gainful employment or access to professional development.

NUT President Comrade Michael Alogba Olukoya stated this at an event in Abuja when the union entered into partnership with the Danish Union of Early Childhood and Youth Educators (BUPL) to promote and domesticate international best practices on early childhood education in the country.

Olukoya was represented by the union’s general secretary Comrade Obong Obong at the formal launching of the NUT/BUPL project on decent employment and professional development for early childhood educators in Nigeria-2012-2014.

Stressing the importance of early childhood education to the intellectual development of a child, he said the partnership with Denmark’s BUPL, will reposition the sector.
