The domestication and implementation of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) will quicken the dispensation of justice and observance to human rights in Nigeria, the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) has said.

Speaking at a sensitization workshop in Nasarawa State, Barr. Muritala Abdul-Rasheed, the Project Coordinator of NBA’s Legislative Advocacy and Sensitization Programme on the Domestication and Implementation of ACJA, said the act was still new to lawyers and judicial officers.

In a press statement issued in Abuja by the NBA, Abdul-Rasheed listed the benefits of implementing ACJA across the states to include but not limited to speedy dispensation of justice and the observance of human rights.

He said in its bid to promote the purpose of the Act, the NBA has partnered with MacArthur Foundation to promote the implementation of the Act in 28 states of the federation. The project, he said, has a life span of three years.

He called for speedy passage of the bill by the legislature in Nasarawa State.

On his part, the Chief Judge of Nasarawa State, Justice Sulaiman Dikko, commended the NBA for incluing the state for the sensitization workshop and encouraged active participation and contribution from all participants.
