As Kaduna City concludes plans to celebrate its 100th year of existence, the state government said that the event will bring back its lost glory.
Addressing the press yesterday as part of activities for the celebration, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Balarabe Abbas Lawal, who is chairman of the organising committee, recalled the good old days of the city where the people lived together in peace.
“Unfortunately, many tragedies including violent conflicts, political and religious disturbances destroyed ties that bound diverse communities in the state.
“As you aware, Lord Frederick Lugard established Kaduna in 1917 as the capital of the Northern Protectorate to replace Zungeru. The city was planned carefully, and it quickly became a magnet for all Nigerians, not least the diverse people of the vast areas that constitute the north of Nigeria.
“The names and streets across Kaduna City testify to the diverse origins of the people that made Kaduna home,” he said.
