The Federal Government has been advised against tolerating politicization of industrial actions by health workers.

A former Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Professor Eugene Okpere gave the advice during the National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the Medical and Dental Consultants of Nigeria (MDCAN) in Abuja.

Professor Okperewho was the guest lecturer, said while government should listen to health workers’ demands, it should be bold and honest to state what it could or could not do.

The President of the Medical and Dental Consultants Association of Nigeria (MDCN), Professor Ngim Ngim, said the association was making efforts to ensure that striking health professionals are brought to the table to bring lasting solutions to the problems.

The Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu said combating infectious disease in Nigeria requires collective action.
