‘Lovers’ found dead in car: My brother was murdered – sister

The last may not have been heard of the bizarre incident that occurred last Sunday at the Ogba, area of the Lagos metropolis which involved a man and a woman found dead in a Toyota Corolla car as the elder sister of the man yesterday alleged that her brother was murdered and did not die of exhaustion from sex as was believed in some quarters.

The lady, who simply identified herself as Sheyi, maintained that her brother, who she said was a licensing officer, was killed along with the lady and abandoned in his car to make it look like they were lovers.

Sheyi told our correspondents that after her brother had been killed, he was dragged into the car, which she said was then abandoned by the side of the road.

Lukmon Olowu, 39, and a lady, Promise Nze, were found dead, reportedly loosely dressed, inside his Toyota Corolla car on Abisogun Leigh Street, Ogba, close to the Area G police command.

Olowu, who was married with two kids, resided on the same street with the deceased lady, who was also living  with her husband.

Confirming how her brother was found, Sheyi alleged that he was found dead in his car and seated at the back seat with his legs stretched out towards the dashboard, while the lady in question was in front.

She said, “It is funny the way people went about the entire incident. What was published in the papers and online were totally untrue. My brother was found dead seated at the back seat of his car with his tongue hanging out loosely.

“The lady that was with him at the time he was found was seated on the front seat of the car and with the seat belt still holding her. She was even holding unto her purse.

“How come then the media was saying they had had sex? The girl in question was a friend to my brother’s wife. My brother was married with two kids, he was a responsible man and was working with the Lagos State Licensing Office.

“I strongly believe that my brother and the lady were killed, dragged into his car and abandoned close to his house to ridicule our family.”

A cousin of the late man, Oladele Salawu, revealed that the family was awaiting the autopsy report.

Salawu said that the family was insisting on carrying out an autopsy on the bodies to redeem the image of their deceased brother.

He said, “The deceased was my junior. I could not go to see his corpse because it is a taboo in Yorubaland. I can vouch for the character and conduct of my late brother. We grew up together. We were brought up in the Muslim faith. From what I have heard, I still do not believe the news making the round.

“According to police investigation, the deceased had in his possession the sum of N40,000, while the lady was found with about N8000. If they actually wanted to make love, they would have gone to any hotel because they had money. How come then they had stayed inside a small car, a Toyota Corolla that is not even comfortable? There are lots of single girls around, so how come my brother would sleep with a married woman?

“Some people killed them and put them inside the car. However, the family is awaiting the autopsy report before it will take its position. The corpse is at the morgue.”

At No. 56, Shonola Street, Ogba, where Olowu resided until his death, Eko Trust saw the residents crowded in front of the house still gripped with shock over the incident, wearing a gloomy look. Efforts of our correspondents to chat with them were unsuccessful as they kept sealed lips.

Also at No. 48, Shonola Street, where Nze lived,  almost all her neighbours refused to speak with our correspondents. The only one who spoke on the condition of anonymity insisted that the deceased persons couldn’t have been making love when they died, even if the lady’s husband had used a charm on her.

She said the initial report that the deceased persons resided in the same house was totally untrue, as they were actually living four houses apart.

She said, “A day to the incident, Lukmon and some friends went to a birthday party at Obawole, Iju. After the party, Lukmon used his car to drive many of his friends, including Promise who also attended the party, to their residences.

“Promise later pleaded with Lukmon to take her to her friend’s place around the Excellence Hotel, located at Ogba. We understand that she had called her husband, telling him that she would spend the night at her friend’s place, before she called and asked Lukmon to drive her there.”

A police officer at the Area G Ogba police command, who did not wish to be named, said that the deceased persons were not found naked as alleged but that they were actually loosely dressed.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Olarinde Famous-Cole, said that investigation on the matter was still ongoing and that the command would make its findings known at the end of investigation.
