Following last Saturday’s defection of some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, a chieftain of the PDP, Alhaji Adebisi Olopoenia, yesterday said only former governor of the state, Otunba Adebayo Alao-Akala, is politically relevant among the defectors.
He challenged Governor Abiola Ajimobi to test their (defectors’) political worth by visiting their respective local governments and constituencies to ascertain their real worth.
Olopoenia, who stated this while speaking with reporters at the weekend in Ibadan, also said that the former governor of the state, Otunba Alao-Akala, was not a member of the PDP, having decamped to Labour Party in 2014.
According to him, “although no party wants to lose its member to the opposition at any point in time, when it happens, then such party would take stock. Those who went to Mapo to celebrate the 68th birth of the governor on Saturday claimed that our party is dead, they don’t need to cry foul.
“The ceremony on Saturday would have been a function where most politicians in the state should attend to rejoice with the governor if it wasn’t tagged as defection show.
“We know ourselves in the PDP. Those singing the songs on Saturday were frustrated and rejected members of the party whose contribution, based on the 2015 general elections in the state affected the fortune of the party,” he said.
