One person was injured and dozens were displaced in skirmishes between a Tiv community and Fulani herders in Gidan Amadu village, Giza in Keana Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

Our correspondent reports that there has been tension in the area in the past two days, following renewed clash between Tiv farmers and Fulani herders over the alleged refusal of the farmers to allow the herders graze their cattle on their lands.

Governor Umaru Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, has warned the Tiv farmers and Fulani herders in the state to lay down their arms or be prepared to face the law. The governor handed down the warning yesterday in Lafia.

Addressing newsmen after a peace meeting between the two communities, Governor Al-Makura, who was represented by his special adviser on security matters, (rtd) Brigadier General Muhammed Adeka, warned that the state will not condone any further attacks.

Adeka told newsmen that the two communities have agreed to lay down their arms, adding that security has been reinforced in the area.

The leader of the Fulani community, Alhaji Haruna Usman, said he was happy that the issues were deliberated and amicably resolved.

On his part, the youth president, Tiv Development Association (TIVDA) in Nasarawa State, Peter Ahemba, who doubles as the leader of the Tiv in the affected area, called on the farmers to embrace peace and urged those who disserted their homes to return.
