Thirteen people died in a motor incident along Garba Chede-Mutum Biyu Road in Taraba State at about 7pm on Thursday.
A witness, Malam Musa Garba, told Daily Trust that the victims were all youths travelling in a truck from Garba Chede in Bali Local Government Area to Tella, a market town, when the driver lost control and ran into the bush killing 13 people on the spot.
Malam Garba said the truck was conveying about 43 traders and 62 cows, adding that the incident occurred after the close of Garba Chede market. He said 30 others sustained various degrees of injury and were admitted at the Mutum Biyu General Hospital.
The Chairman of Gassol Local Government Area, Alhaji Yahuza Ya’u, confirmed the incident, adding that the victims were buried yesterday in Mutum Biyu.
Meanwhile, in Gombe, three people were said to have died and 14 others injured yesterday afternoon when a trailer rammed on motorists in the metropolis.
The truck which was conveying cement lost control around the Gombe Old Market and rammed into vehicles and motorcycles parked along the busy road.
Some witnesses told our correspondent that two people on a motorcycle and a boy selling sugarcane died on the spot.
Also, four cars and three motorcycles were completely destroyed by the trailer.
The Gombe State Police spokesman, DSP Obed Mary Malum, confirmed the incident.
