ActionAid Nigeria (AAN) has urged the federal government to prioritise working with other stakeholders to ensure the success of the 2019 general elections.
The organisation said the growing spate of insecurity resulting in displacements across the country was worrisome and could undermine the credibility of the elections.
AAN Country Director, Ene Obi, who raised the concern yesterday in Abuja at the end of the “Project Dissemination Program for the Strengthening Citizen Engagement in Electoral Process” (SCEEP), said many people were displaced and may be disenfranchised in the elections.
She stressed the need for security agencies to be on their toes in other to guarantee the safety of Nigerians, as good electoral processes can only prevail in safe environments.
The Sarkin Rano of Kano, Dr Tafida Abubakar Ila, said the electoral process in Nigeria had always been a nightmare when compared to other parts of the world.
A representative of DFID, Oliver Blakes, said the programme which had been running since 2014 in six states had so far brought people who were excluded from the electoral process in focus, such as people with disabilities, women and youth groups.
