Some 250 special advisers and assistants to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto state have resigned.
Addressing a press conference on Sunday, they hinged their decision on the recent defection of the Governor from All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his "abysmal performance" in the state.
"We have every reason not to follow him to his new party because he betrayed and disappointed the people of Sokoto state due to his abysmal performance.
"We thought the Governor would make a difference being a former number four citizen but his tenure is one of the worst that ever happened to the people of Sokoto state," they alleged.
One of the Special Advisers, Ibrahim Dasuki Haske, said they represented the 23 local government areas and they are still in APC.
Another aide, Abdullahi Ahmad, said time had come for them to join hands together to reclaim the state, describing the defection of the Governor as a betrayal of the people of the state who fought gallantly to unseat PDP in the country.
"But we are confident that we will win all elective positions in the state come 2019," he said
Another Special Assistant, Bello Maijama’a said the Governor had failed to fulfill his promises to the people of the state.
They however, reaffirmed their loyalty and support to President Muhammadu Buhari and the leader of APC in the state, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko.
Also speaking, the state chairman of APC, Alhaji Isa Bashir Achida thanked them for their decision to remain in the party and assured them that they would be carried along in the activities of the party.
