No fewer than 45, 000 farmers from Kano, Jigawa, Katsina and Plateua states are to be train on modern technics of tomoto farming by Techno Serve organisation.
The country Director of Techno Serve an Implementing partner of Yieldwise Nigeria Programme, Mr Larry Umunna made the disclosure yesterday in Kano during a press briefing.
Mr Umunna said the beneficiaries are to be train within the period of three years.
He said 12,000 farmers had received similar training in the three states, while in Kwara state 10,000 farmers benefitted from the gesture.
He said techno serve is into partnership with Rockefeller Foundation for Yieldwise Nigeria Programme to train Nigerian farmers on tomato and cassava production.
Earlier, the President of Pyxera Global, another implementing partner for Rockefeller Foundation, Ms Deidre White, said 20,000 farmers had been aggregated for the programme of which 9,000 had been trained on improved practice to reduce post harvest lost.
She added that 4,000 plastic crates had been distributed to farmers and 10,000 more crates would soon be distributed to farmers as part of efforts to minimise post harvest lost.
White also said a national stakeholders committee meeting would hold its first meeting in the early 2018.
On his part, the representative of Kano state government, a Senior Special Assistant to the state governor on Agric mechanisation, Alhaji Hamisu Sulaiman Danguguwa, assured Kano state government commitment towards agriculture.
He said, “Kano state government has purchased five million plastic crates and other agric inputs for onward distribution to farmers. Government is always ready to support the farmers improve their productivity.”
