The FCT Police Command is to upgrade the Abaji Divisional Police Headquarters an area command.
The move, according to a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Babatunde Ishola, was aimed at tackling the wave of criminal activities in the area as more police personnel would also be deployed to the area.
Ishola made this known when he paid a courtesy call on the Abaji Area Council Chairman, Abdulrahman Ajiya.
The DCP informed the chairman that the aim of his visit was to intimate him about the latest development on converting the division to an area command.
“An area commander and more police officers as a matter of urgency are expected to report to Abaji Area Command,” he said.
In his response, the council chairman, Ajiya said he was impressed by the move as it would help in curtailing crimes in the area and pledged to give the necessary support to ensure the smooth take off of the new area command.
He also expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ibrahim Idris, and the FCT commissioner of police, Sadiq Bello Abubakar, on the latest development.
He also urged residents, especially youth, to be law abiding and shun crime, noting that his administration will not condone illegality from anyone.
It could be recalled that two police men were shot dead by gunmen at a checkpoint along Abaji-Abuja-Lokoja road and one of their guns was taken away recently.
The DCP was accompanied on the visit by the Gwagwalada Police Area Commander, ACP Mijinyawa Jahun and Abaji Divisional Police Officer, CSP Tersoo Tile.
