In recognition of his invaluable contributions to the development of the local government system in the country, an Award of Honour has been conferred on Senator representing Sokoto North Central Senatorial District, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko,
The Department of Local Government and Development Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, conferred the Award on him,his Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Bashir Rabe Mani disclosed.
Mani added that the Federated Organization of Sokoto State Students’ Association (FOSOSSA),also conferred an honour of ” The Most Students ‘- Friendly Senator ,” on the Senator .
He said the ABU Zaria award was presented to Senator Wamakko, by the Head of Department, Dr Bashir Jumare while Senator Wamakko was represented by Professor Musa Garba Maitafsir at the ceremony held at the Kongo
Campus of the institution.
Mani quoted Dr Jumare as saying that the award was bestowed on Senator Wamakko in recognition of his invaluable contributions to the development of the local government system in the country.
He added that Dr Jumare said the sustained efforts of Senator Wamakko had led to the emergence of a robust local government system in the country.
On the FOSOSSA Award, he said the President of the Organization, Comrade Surajo Abdullahi noted:"The award followed a resolution sequel to series of meetings and consultations with our Executive and Legislative Councils, as well as Council of Patrons.This in consideration of your antecedents and past records as the Executive Governor of Sokoto State, who was very friendly and open to students."
Senator Wamakko said that the awards would spur him to do more in ensuring sustainable peace, unity and socioeconomic progress of Sokoto state and Nigeria in general, Mani added.
