The Chief Judge of Anambra State, Justice Peter Umeadi has been elected as the president of World Association of Judges.
Umeadi was elected to the position during the 25th Biennial Congress of the World Jurist Association held at the Caribbean Island of Aruba.
The CJ, by this election, becomes a member of the Governing Board of World Jurist Association (WJA), a feat that may offer Nigeria the privilege to be the first African country to host the next biennial congress of WJA, come October 2019.
The WJA, formed in 1963, as a non-governmental organization with special consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council, is a forum that provides support to the international community on issues of global peace, by strengthening institutions that guarantees rule of law.
Members of the board include, President of WJA, Franklin Hoet Linares from Venezuela, 1st Vice President, TAO Kaiyuan (People’s Republic of China): 2nd Vice President, Saeed Zayed Alshamsi (United Arab Emirates): 3rd Vice President, Glendeline Croes (Island of Aruba).
Other members are Peter Umeadi (Nigeria) World Association of Judges, Jacinto Soler Pedro (Spain), World Association of Lawyers, Alberto Jurado (Venezuela), World Association of Law Professors and Alexander Low (Germany), World Association of Business Associates.
