Residents of communities in Anambra state, residing in the rural areas have been advised to take advantage of the free medical services being rendered by members of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in the state.

The State Coordinator of the scheme, Mr Ebenezer Olawale, made the call at the opening of a weeklong Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers (HIRD) in Awkuzu, Oyi local government of Anambra state.

He said the exercise, which is part of the scheme’s community service mandate, was aimed at addressing the medical challenges of rural dwellers, particularly the indigent in the society.

The coordinator assured adequate corps members of the medical and paramedical field to take care of the people.

“Our teams of doctors, pharmacists, Physiotherapists and other professionals in the medical field have been commissioned to the villages to attend to the health needs of the people.

“I call on our people, especially the indigent among us to come out and take advantage of this opportunity as both the treatment and the drugs are free.

"Where the drug is not available, we shall advise the beneficiary and also prescribe the appropriate medicine to them,” he said.

Olawale also appealed to the state government, firms and individuals to support the initiative through supply of more drugs and other logistics for effective coverage.
