Ahead of next Saturday’s governorship election in Anambra State, the Senate has charged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure transparency and credibility in the conduct of the poll.

The Chairman, Senate Committee on INEC, Senator Suleiman Nazif, made the remarks when the committee visited the state to assess preparations for the polls.

The committee also cautioned the electoral body against conducting inconclusive election.

According to him, the success of the election would serve as a litmus test for the 2019 general elections and would serve as blueprint for future polls in the nation.

Senator Nazif urged security operatives to ensure peaceful atmosphere during and after the election, adding that their presence was important to the successful outcome of the poll.

INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state, Dr Nkwachukwu Orji, observed that the state was second in the country to collect the permanent voter’s cards which would end the 15th.
