The National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) in conjunction with West Africa Polytechnic/Monotechnic Students Union (WAPSU) have threatened to embark on peaceful mass protest if within 14 days Federal Government refuses to resolve her impasse with the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP).
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Monday, November, 13th embarked on an indefinite strike, saying Federal Government has to fulfill the outstanding agreement made with the union.
The National Public Relation Officer (PRO) of NAPS, Comrade Olugbode Damola Hammed and President of WAPSU, Salahudeen A. Lukman gave the ultimatum at the joint press conference in Abuja on Tuesday.
“Federal Government and ASUP must find a common ground to agree for the sake of our future. If no resolution in the next 14 days, the Federal Government should expect student populace resumption for peaceful mass protest at the Aso Villa Gate on every weekly Federal Executive Council Meeting,” they said.
According to them, over 20 million members of NAPS and WAPSU would participate in the peaceful mass protest, adding that their membership strength is enough to fight such battle intellectually and peacefully.
They noted that student unions would not fold their arms to allow what happened to them in 2003 where 11 months was unjustly taken away from them in the name of national strike to happen again.
