The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has urged the ‎federal government to intervene in the crisis bedeviling Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) Ogbomosho.

Bauchi Zonal chapter of the union made the call at a press conference held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi at the weekend.

Bauchi Zone consist of Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe,‎ Yobe and Plateau states.

Addressing newsmen, the Zonal Coordinator, Professor Lawan Abubakar‎ calls on the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission (NUC) to call Oyo and Osun state governments to end the crisis.

"The Academic Staff ‎Union of Universities (ASUU), Bauchi Zone is worried about the continuous and affront ridiculing of Public University Education in Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomosho by the Governments of Osun and Oyo States, who are the combined owners or visitors of the university.

"The problem of the university started when Osun State was created from the eastern part of the old Oyo State on the 27th August, 1991; the two new states, then failed to agree on the sharing of assets, when it came to the University, due to their ‎deliberate insensitivity to the plights of the 25,000 students, over 3,000 staff and the other services offered by LAUTECH," he said.

ASUU accused the governments of Oyo and Osun state of refusing to fund the university adding that it is being run on zero allocation using only funds generated from school fees‎ which it said cannot even pay salaries talkless of funding academic and other activities.

"The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), would wish to warn at this point, that unless the supervisory authorities in charge of universities-Federal Ministry of Education and the NUC take urgent and potent steps to remedy‎ the situation in LAUTECH, anything legal is possible within the Nigerian University system in the days to come, ASUU will not accept anything short of responsible ownership from the visitors of any Nigerian University," he warned.
