Following the decision of the Federal Government to approve the concession of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwa International Airport (NAIA), Abuja, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) involving major aviation unions in the country this morning staged mother of all rallies to express their opposition to the concession.
A memo to that effect obtained by our correspondent had informed workers especially those working with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) to join the protest on Tuesday.
It was learnt that the protest would take place at all airports in the country beginning from Lagos Airport which is taking place at the time of filing this report.
The in-house bulletin issued by the JAC said, "Sequel to the pronouncement made by the Vice- President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on the approval of the concessioning of Lagos and Abuja international airports, the unions urge all staff to remain calm as we mobilize for the mother of all rallies.
"By this bulletin, we urge all FAAN workers to come out en masse to decide our fate as our position still remains no to concession".
General Secretary of the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Comrade Olayinka Abioye in a chat with Daily Trust said the protest would be peaceful across the airports.
He said the proposed concession of the airports is fraudulent and that the unions would resist.
Stakeholders in the aviation sector have been divided over the concession of the two major airports in the country as announced last week by Osinbajo.
