Aviation workers have concluded arrangement to picket Kenya Airways at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) on Tuesday over alleged poor treatment of Nigerian employees.
The workers under the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) have sent out notice to members to converge at the airline’s office and operational area at the airport to shut down the East African carrier.
According to the union, the airline has been toying with the welfare of the workers which is not acceptable.
It would be recalled that the union had planned the picketing last Tuesday but the plan was shelved following the intervention of the Police Commissioner, Airport Command, Mr. Besan Gwana who reportedly called the parties into a meeting.
The Union however gave the airline another 48 hours ultimatum to address all issues of workers’ welfare and the ultimatum expired on Friday.
General Secretary of NUATE, Comrade Olayinka Abioye confirmed the planned picketing; saying members have been duly notified.
“We would have taken over that place on Tuesday last week but for the intervention of the police. We gave them another 48 hours which has expired”, he said, noting that the airline has been infringing on the rights of workers.
