The governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, yesterday, said the footage that went viral depicting the deplorable condition of primary and junior secondary schools in his state was a clear testimony of how the education sector suffered years of neglect in the immediate past government of former governor Sule Lamido.
Badaru said this at the commissioning of a constituency office of the House of Representatives member, representing Birniwa, Kirikasamma, Guri Federal Constituency, Abubakar Fulata in Kirikasamma.
He dismissed linking the footage to his government.
The governor accused the opposition of being responsible for the photographs and footage of pupils on the floor receiving lessons in the state in order to give his government a bad image.
He said the administration of former governor Lamido stopped the payment of counterpart funds for the State Universal Basic Education Board since 2013, adding that the situation was the aftermath of years of neglect by the past government.
He added that despite the effort of his administration to ameliorate the problem, some schools were yet to get the needed attention due to the volume of the challenges met on ground.
When contacted, the spokesperson of former governor Lamido, Malam Kyari Maidamuwa, advised governor Badaru to wake up from his slumber.
Maidamuwa said the governor should concentrate on showing to the people of Jigawa State what he did with their money three years into his administration instead of engaging in blame game.
