The Benue State Internal Revenue Service (BIRS) has launched a special device, Smart Attendance Management Solution (SAMS) in order to check staff truancy and to improve revenue generation in the state.
Executive Chairman of BIRS, Mrs. Mimi Adzape-Orubibi, said on Thursday at the launching of the electronic device in Makurdi that the integrated digital tool has the capacity to manage employees work attendance in public, private, small, medium and large scale corporate establishments.
Orubibi who distributed the devices to representatives of the 38 area tax offices as well as zonal offices across the state, maintained that the devices would be connected to the BIRS headquarters in Makurdi to check truancy of staff as from next Monday to monitor staff performance and improve revenue profile of the state.
She warned that any staff found wanting as may be indicated by the new innovation would be fired and urged those who think they cannot cope under such arrangement to honourably resign.
She added that BIRS has key performance indicators that could only be achieved through team work and each staff contribution would be needed to realise the overall goal.
The BIRS boss further explained that the innovation would also track those who were not working but hide under team work without meeting their individual targets, stressing that staff would be assessed based on their ability to individually meet set targets.
"A department is given a target, let’s say N10 million in a month, that department will cascade it to individuals and units. The unit will divide it among its staff. Don’t hide under the N10 million, work towards meeting your targeted amount," she said.
