The Special Adviser to the Ogun State governor on Urban and Physical Planning, Stephen Adewolu, has disclosed that buildings and houses under high tension wires in the state stand the risk of demolition as a preventive measure against disaster.
In a statement signed by his Information Officer, Oluwatosin Koletowo, the Special Adviser was quoted as saying that the step by government, “is not targeted at any property owner but is only designed to forestall loss of lives and property, as well as curb the risk of accidents.”
According to the statement, Adewolu noted that erecting illegal structures under high tension wires could cause brain tumour and infertility to occupants of such structures, and as such, the best option was to demolish them.
“It is high time our people knew that building any form of illegal structures on road set-backs, under high tension wire or acquisition lands is inimical to physical planning orderliness and should be avoided in order not to attract demolition,” Adewolu stated.
The Special Adviser was further quoted in the statement as advising builders that, “physical environment orderliness should be the concern of every citizen”, and called on all stakeholders to join hands with government in providing a “liveable and aesthetically viable environment.”
