The Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), an umbrella body of all registered political parties in Nigeria, has said President Muhammadu Buhari has nothing against opposition parties ahead of the 2019 general elections.
In a message marking Buhari’s 75th birthday yesterday, in Abuja, the IPAC national chairman, Alhaji Mohammed Nalado, said the registration of 21 more political parties was an indication that Buhari understood the crucial role of opposition parties in a democracy.
The council also urged Buhari not to despair in the face of daunting challenges confronting his administration and called on all Nigerians to be supportive of the government rather than fanning the embers of hatred.
He urged the 21 new registered political parties to embark on serious membership drive and grassroots mobilisation ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Nalado also urged the new parties to play politics according to the guidelines for political parties, stressing that their opposition to government must be constructive.
He explained that no political party in Nigeria was small, as any one of them could be elected into power at any time.
