A Lokoja chief magistrates’ court has remanded two men in prison custody for allegedly killing a man they accused of killing their brother.
The accused, Mohammed Osama, 35 and Umoru Sanda were charged with criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide contrary to sections 97(1) and 221(a) of the criminal code. Police prosecutor, Inspector Friday Shaibu, told the court that one Dahiru ldris of Lapai, Niger State, reported the matter at the Divisional Police Headquarters Koton-Karfe on April 5.
Shaibu said Idris alleged that on April 4, at about 11:59pm, the accused persons and others now at large, criminally conspired and armed themselves with weapons including cutlasses and knives with which they invaded his (Idris’) house. He said the accused persons without provocation, tied the hands of the deceased, Nurudeen Dahiru and slaughtered him with a knife. He said the accused persons had alleged that it was the deceased that killed one Mohammed Bello, a younger brother of Osama.
Shaibu said investigation into the case was on-going and called for adjournment to enable the police complete their investigation but objected to the bail of the accused.
Animoku in his ruling said the offences, especially culpable homicide, preferred against the defendants were heinous crimes and the highest offence known to the laws.
“Bail is not granted as a matter of course. Consequently, the defendants shall be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Koton-Karfe even as I refuse the bail,” Animoku said.
The case has been adjourned to May 2 for mention.
