A Katsina Magistrate court has remanded six men allegedly held in connection to the seized 24,000 bottles of cough syrup with codeine in Katsina. The suspects are Christian Chukwuma, Chukwuma Obiora, Abdullahi Yakubu , Muhammed Waziri, Saminu Jibril and Muhammed Bala.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) charged the suspects for unlawful possession of 400 cartons or 24, 000 bottles of cough syrup with codeine said to be found in their possession on March 16 along Funtua road in Katsina which is contrary to and punishable under Section 19 of the NDLEA Act.
In her ruling, the Magistrate Fadila Dikko said the suspects were only being arraigned for cognisance as their matter is only triable by a state High Court as she remanded the suspects at NDLEA’s custody till April 3, 2018 for further mention.
NDLEA had paraded the suspects on Wednesday saying they were arrested at a ware house located at Dutsenreme in Funtua offloading the commodity.
