Court remands applicant over house trespass, theft

An Upper Area Court 2 sitting in Gombe yesterday remanded an applicant in prison custody over alleged theft and house trespass.

The accused person, Sunusi Inuwa of Bolari Ward of Gombe metropolis was dragged before the court by the Gombe State Police Command for allegedly trespassing into a house in Bomala quarters of the metropolis and stealing properties worth N168,040.

The police First Information Report (FIR), read to the accused when he appeared before the court stated that, sometime in July, 2018 he conspired with one Musa Garba of Pantami ward, who was not present in court, and trespassed into the house of one Nasiru Adamu and stolen household items, clothes and foodstuff total valued at N168,040.

When asked by the court if the charges preferred against him were true, Inuwa pleaded not-guilty to the two-count charge of criminal conspiracy and theft

Police prosecuting officer, Inspector Murna Kudi, said the offenses are contrary to sections 96 and 286 of the Penal Code Law. She asked for a new date to enable police finish their investigation. 

The presiding judge, Zakariyya Adamu, granted the application and adjourned the case to August 8, 2018 for continuation of hearing. He ordered the accused to be remanded in prison custody.
