The Director General of Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo Campaign Organisation in the 2015 general elections, Senator Sa’idu Umar Kumo, has announced his exit from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Senator Kumo who represented Gombe Central at the Senate between 1999 and 2003 announced the withdrawal of his membership from the PDP at a press conference at his residence in Gombe yesterday.
The one time National Secretary of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) said he left PDP due to irreconcilable differences between him and Governor Dankwambo, who he accused of pushing him out of the PDP.
“From today I cease to be a member of the PDP because, first of all, I am not needed at the state level. The governor and his surrogates don’t need me in the party. I am not useful to him and they did everything humanly possible to push me out,” he said.
“Being a politician, I better give way so that those who think I am a stumbling block will have a chance. But I am not declaring for any political party for now. I want to take my time to study the political terrain before taking further decision,” he said.
However, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Alhaji Umar Ahmed Nafada, debunked the claim by Senator Kumo.
“It is not true that the governor pushed him out of the party. Upon all the close associates of Governor Dankwambo, as a peace-loving man, he appointed Senator Sa’idu as his campaign DG in 2015 to help him to retain his seat.”
Nafada said the senator left the PDP “to pursue his personal political interest elsewhere and therefore abandoned the governor who is rounding up his second tenure because he thinks Dankwambo is no longer relevant to him.”
