Gombe state government has urged its local government areas to diversify sources of income to improve their Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and reduce over dependent on monthly allocation.

Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo made the called at the opening of a two-day workshop for officials of the 11 LGAs of the state, on continuity and political stability organized by the state Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Represented by his Deputy, Mr Charles Iliya, the governor said that over dependence on oil revenue through monthly allocation from the federation account would no longer sustain development at the grass root.

He therefore called on the chairmen to improve the IGR of their local councils from both formal and informal sectors, to supplement their monthly allocation from the federation account.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar Walama, said the workshop was organized to ensure staff development, effective and efficient service delivery as well as to realize political stability and continuity in governance.

He said the participants are the 11 LGAs chairmen and their deputies, 114 councilors, secretaries and head of departments of the councils among other stakeholders.
