A 30-year-old driver and father of three has been arrested in Akure, the Ondo State capital for allegedly robbing and raping a university undergraduate passenger.
Yusuf Waheed who hails from Iwo in Osun State was arrested in Abeokuta, Ogun State last week with his operating vehicle, a Sharon space bus with registration number KTU 989 CE.
According to the spokesman for the Ondo State Police Command, Femi Joseph, the suspect had picked eight passengers at Agbogbo area of Akure going to Ile-Ife that fateful day and the victim was one of them.
Joseph said other passengers alighted at various destinations especially at Ilesa until the victim was left in the vehicle with the driver when he suddenly drove her inside the bush, raped her at knife point, took her handset, Ipad, cash and other valuable items and disappeared into the thin air at a time it was almost 8pm.
The PRO said the suspect was later traced to Abeokuta where he was arrested by detectives from the command and the handset as well as a flash drive and cover of Ipad belonging to the victim were recovered from him.
The suspect who said he was married to two wives, told Daily Trust that if such a thing was done to his daughter, he would not take it lightly.
He said he had come to drop some load in Akure that day from Abeokuta and decided to carry passengers on his way back.
